Jewellery Care

Like most things in life, it’s important to take care of your jewellery to make sure you get the most out of it, and keep it looking as new as the day it arrived. Here are some of our top tips for looking after your jewellery and reducing tarnishing, discolouration, damage and corrosion -

    • Avoid sleeping with your jewellery on.
    • Remove jewellery before cooking and cleaning. If it comes into contact with any chemicals rinse off immediately to avoid damage.
    • Keep your jewellery away from water when possible. Avoid showering, swimming, entering natural springs, or the sea with it on as chlorine, chemicals, and other elements are especially damaging to jewellery and can cause extreme tarnishing.
    • Remove jewellery before any sort of physical exercise or activity that could knock or damage it. Perspiration can also tarnish your jewellery.
    • This one is especially important right now with many of us consistently using hand sanitiser… avoid direct contact of jewellery and any sort of skin lotions, body creams, hand sanitiser, perfumes, etc. It’s not uncommon for skin and hair products to react with jewellery causing it to tarnish, discolour and possibly corrode. It’s advised to put on any skincare products first, allow to dry, then put your jewellery on last.
    • When possible, store jewellery somewhere dry, cool and airtight as exposure to the air and environment may cause jewellery to tarnish over time.
